The Ultimate Rock Guitar Fake Book
Published in Spiral-bound by Hal Leonard (December, 1989)
Author: Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation
Average review score:

Wild Thing
From a guitar standpoint, this has 200 rock songs with chords, tablature, and strum patterns. Most music comes with chords, some with chords and tab, but the strum patterns helped put it all together. We had some fun with this book.

Fake Books Are Great
As with most Fake Books you get enough with this one to whet your appetite and let you know if you want to delve deeper in the song and purchase the sheet music.

Great assortment of Elvis pictures.
Great book. I was tickled to see many pictures that I have never seen in any other publication.

The Book of all Elvis books
I have only this to say about this book: Elvis was the King of Rock-n-Roll -- Unseen Elvis is the King of all Books -- and Jim Curtin the King of Elvis collectors!

Up-Tight
Published in Paperback by Cooper Square Press (November, 2003)
Authors: Victor Bockris and Gerard Malanga
Average review score:

Great history and biography of the early Velvets
This is a fantastic book! It covers alot of the early formative years, and is worth getting just for that.

I do think that it starts to lose its depth when it comes to the later years, their last two studio albums (which are highly under-rated in comparison to the first two experimental albums). But what this book covers concerning the formation and first two albums is an excellent piece of rock n roll history! Highly Recommended!

Intelligent & entertaining approach
An intelligent and entertaining approach to one of the most influential (read: they didn't sell a lot of records in their heyday)rock bands ever. Great pix too. The Velvets epitomized a time when artists didn't feel narrowly compelled to practise any ONE discipline, but rather people were less afraid to combine ideas, cross genres and disciplines. The spirit of the time, to me, suggests Possibility. Yes, Warhol et al. could drift into pretention, but that's the price (and it's really not such a costly one) you pay for being daring. You may go too far sometimes, and by today's (stupid?) standards, perhaps some of the VU "happenings" might appear contrived. But I don't think so! Altogether, VU rules. Way ahead of their time, and before it too. And beside it.

Buy this book, but more importantly, buy into the Underground.

This book is great
I bought this book because I love Vanessa Carlton's music and wanted to play it myself. The book was wonderful because the song were at a different range of difficulty, some songs I could sightread, yet others I had to work on. This book is great for any Vanessa Carlton, piano playing fan.

wowow
I found this book sooo kool! It has all the songs of the album and although isn't orchestral does allow you to play them along to music on the piano and guitar, a brilliant buy! ;D

Waiting for the Beatles: An Apple Scruff's Story
Published in Hardcover by Blandford Press (June, 1985)
Author: Carol Bedford
Average review score:

Review
Unique look at the Beatle world. Real people (although doing some unreal things) sharing a moment in time with the fabs. This is like no other Beatles book. Not so much about the music as it is about the fans and the Beatles as people.
Just a fabulous book.

A true piece of history!
This book is a biographical account of life as an Applescruff, a group of girls who ran a Beatles newsletter back in the 1960s. They were always with the Beatles, following them, waiting for them to leave the recording studios, walking their dogs, some even got themselves invited to parties! It's chock full of stories ranging from hilarious to downright scary. Hard to find but worth it for the unique perspective it provides.

Weird Al's zany sheet music -- a must have for Al fans!
The "Weird Al" Yankovic Anthology is the long-awaited sheet music of Al's most popular songs. The quirky satire of family vacations is profiled in "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota." The agony of love gone very, very bad is the theme of "One More Minute." "Weird Al" Yankovic has a marvelous talent of bringing out the kid in all of us while putting a smile on our faces. If you like Al's music, you'll love to play it on the piano and sing it in the shower.

What a Long, Strange Trip
Published in Paperback by Publishers' Group West (May, 1999)
Author: Stephen Peters

Beautiful
If you enjoy the Dead you'll enjoy the stories behind the songs. There is nothing superficial about what Peter's writes. You'll thoroughly enjoy this book.

The Grateful Dead's Menu of Songs: Deep Roots
Pete Townsend of The Who, after playing on the same bill with the Dead at a two-day festival, made an observation that partially sums up the very existence of those known as "Deadheads". He said "They played two 3-hour sets and didn't repeat a song; we played the same set we've been doing for the last 6 years". The Dead had a hefty catalog of songs (of course, they also performed excellent cover versions of others' tunes). This book is a fan's dream because it is a compilation of original songs with historical/anecdotal/interpretive background information on each selection. As any appreciator of the band knows, Jerry Garcia collaborated with poet/songwriter Robert Hunter on the majority of Dead originals; Hunter keeps company with the likes of Bob Dylan in anybody's list of great American rock pen-wielders.Dead guitarist Bob Weir wrote many songs performed by the band with long-time friend and cyber-genius John Barlowe. The beauty of Grateful Dead songs is their double-edged nature; yes, "Casey Jones" is based on a real train conductor and a real train wreck (Americana!), but the writers weave their own experience and ambiguous view of life into the song.Simply stated, the songs are deceptively DEEP - deep in meaning and deep in the soil of the American experience. Don't look for this book to explain what every song meant (that's for you to ponder, Hunter would say). However, there is invaluable and often just fun background (i.e.the Altamont tragedy and "New Speedway Boogie"; the staccato rhythmn of "The Greatest Story Ever Told" being loosely based on the sound made by a pump on Mickey Hart's ranch). Pick this book up, even if you only have a few minutes, turn to any page, and be enlightened and entertained.

What Was the First Rock 'N' Roll Record?
Published in Paperback by Jim Dawson (November, 1992)
Authors: Jim Dawson, Steve Propes, Dave Marsh, and Billy Vera
Average review score:

A "must" for RnR roots & jump-blues fans.
It's pretty funny that commercials trying to be "hip" are using these songs now. Of course this book doesn't pick one song for an absolute answer. Instead (and as it should be)it traces the various influences which evolved to be "Rock and Roll" - I'm sorry to see this is out-of-stock hopefully there'll be a reprint soon.

Best rock 'n' roll book ever!
I'm sick of reading junky rock books where the author thinks it all started with Bill Haley and "Rock Around the Clock." These two guys obviously know their history of R&B and country boogie and pop music from the late '40s and '50s, and they obviously have listened to the records they write about. Maybe it's got too much detail for a casual reader, but if you love old R&B like I do, it's the best.

Which One's Cliff?

Which ones Cliff By Cliff Richard
I found this book an interesting read because it was written by Cliff & I am a big fan of his, He will always keep me on tender hooks with what ever he does. This book gave me more of an insight to his religious beliefs than I had before & I think I understand him more now than before.

a nice easy to read bio
I found this book easy to read and very enjoyable, the story of a young man who arrived in England from India with nothing and in a few years became the English Elvis, then found a whole new direction. Cliff is England's most enduring star, and this book really lets you know why. Worth searching for

Which One's Pink?
Published in Paperback by Collector's Guide Pub (April, 2000)
Author: Phil Rose
Average review score:

The definitive interpretation of Pink Floyd's concept albums
By God, this book will blow your mind if your a Pink Floyd fan. From unlocking all the ambiguity in the lyrics and music of "Dark Side of the Moon" to being able to completely comprehend the depth of "Animals" and "The Wall," Pete Rose's coherent writing is so interesting and concise that you will hardly be able to put this book down, except the times when your brain tries to recover from its understanding of the genius of Roger Waters. Also this book certianly engraves Waters' place as one of the top 5 lyricists of all time, if not the greatest simply on the merit of the intense detail and scope involved in his concept albums. Pink Floyd's albums are revolutionary, and Pete Rose's documentation of all of their intriguing fascists is too.

Possibly the most thought through and precise interpretation
This book is defineatly a most thurogh book in that a majority of the sheep out there do not queit understand the works of Pink Floyd. The fact that every intricate detail complements the message is great. The exerpts from psycological literature definatly helps explain Waters and the story much needed to tell. The dipiction of Animals in the book is revolutionary, it made myself think how capitalism drives people to an almost passive way of being screwed by the pigs. You can see that politics, business, and organized religion all run its course in blinding the public. You can still see old imperalism rear its ugly head to this day, it hasn't stopped at the cold war it is still going on, the bureaucracy is still and probably always go on , it is time that all of us wake up and take the initiative to live for humanity, not greed, god, or ultamate power,
